Barky Pines Animal Rescue & Sanctuary is proud to be celebrating our 10^th anniversary of serving Palm Beach County Homeless Pets and People.

Ten years ago, the founders saw a great need right here in our backyard. Nearly 5,000 homeless dogs were being euthanized at our county shelter due to the overwhelming amount of intake. Why, they wondered, were so few helping locally and how can they make a difference? While they always wanted to start an animal rescue, they were not financially ready. But the animals needed help! On a shoestring budget Barky Pines was born. That first year, they rescued the most pitbull breeds from the county and never looked back. Eight years ago, they literally bought the farm. A nearly 6-acre plot of overgrown mess. Through all the trials and tribulations, hard work and sacrifice, and the faith of some amazing supporters, Barky has grown and built a haven here for thousands of homeless dogs and farm animals.

In 2022, we saw the effects of the pandemic and a rough economy for so many. Many more pets were being surrendered, and thus euthanasia numbers began to climb once again. Barky said what can we do to change this. And the Barky Clinic was born. As of this writing, through hard work and grant funding, 5,270 patients have been assisted with either free or low cost spay neuter, fractures, vaccines, emergency surgeries, dental work and more. This helps to not only stem overpopulation but keeps many more pets at home with their families and out of the shelter system. Barky also performs and subsidies the feral cat program with PBC. Providing the surgeries, vaccines, chips etc. to reduce the homeless cat population. As well as the surgery on at risk breeds. Barky Pines remains a stray hold partner with PBC AC&C, so lost dogs don’t have to enter the shelter when there is space here.
