Mental health is often overlooked in the Church, yet 1 in 5 Americans face mental illness—and believers are not exempt. Our goal for 2026 is to provide free, faith-aligned Biblical counseling to 1,000 individuals who otherwise couldn’t afford it.

About D.M. Samms and Storm Breakers Effective Biblical Counseling

Storm Breakers was founded out of a powerful personal transformation and a deep commitment to helping others overcome depression through the truth of God’s Word. The vision began with D.M. Samms, a Biblical Counselor whose journey from personal struggle to freedom became the foundation for a ministry that now serves countless individuals in need of hope and healing.

In 2004, after a life-changing encounter with Christ, Samms devoted his life to building God’s Kingdom—sharing the Gospel across California and offering the message of salvation to all willing to listen. His passion for ministry grew from his own battle with depression, a struggle marked by seasons of despair and emotional isolation.

During a particularly intense five-year period, biblical principles for breaking free from what Scripture calls the “spirit of heaviness” were revealed to him. Through God’s grace, this revelation led to lasting freedom. That breakthrough would become the heartbeat of what is now Storm Breakers.

The ministry began with the publication of Storm Breakers: Silence the Storm of Depression, a book designed to equip readers with life-changing, Scripture-based strategies for overcoming emotional storms. From there, Storm Breakers Effective Biblical Counseling was established as a dedicated place for individuals to receive compassionate, Christ-centered counseling and practical tools for restoration.

From its inception, Storm Breakers has been committed to freely offering the same freedom and healing its founder received. Through prayer, financial partnership, and community support, the ministry continues to equip individuals to break free from the bondage of depression and reclaim their lives through Christ.

Together, the mission is clear: bring hope, healing, and restoration to those who need it most.
