What is this auction?

This is an online auction hosted by Siċaŋġu Co featuring items offered in the spirit of cultural appreciation and community support.

Each piece reflects Sicangu cultural expression and helps support programs in food sovereignty, cultural education, ecological regeneration, and community-led development.

What does “cultural appreciation” mean here?

Cultural appreciation here means engaging with items respectfully and with understanding.

These are not costumes, trends, or collectibles. They are cultural expressions connected to Siċaŋġu identity, story, and lived experience.

We ask participants to approach this work in a good way, wówašte, recognizing that culture is living and relational.

Items are intended to be:

Worn with respect
Shared thoughtfully
Kept in cultural context

This is about connection, not consumption. ❤️

Mitákuye oyás’iŋ - everything is connected.

What this is NOT

To be clear, this auction is not:

A costume or novelty marketplace
A trend-based or decorative use platform
A resale-focused collectibles space
A space to remove items from cultural meaning

We ask that items are not:

Used as props without understanding
Reframed in ways that distort meaning
Engaged with outside of respectful context

This space is grounded in respect, relationship, and responsibility.

Can anyone participate?

Yes. The auction is open to participants across the United States!

We are also exploring broader access in the future while maintaining cultural integrity. 🙂

What is Victory Day?

Victory Day is a day of historical significance for the Siċaŋġu Oyate. It is a time of reflection, remembrance, and continued understanding of our shared history. More info is shared in the landing page story section.

For Siċaŋġu Co, it is also a time to continue forward work rooted in cultural strength and community well-being.

How are funds used?

All proceeds support Siċaŋġu Co initiatives, including:

Food sovereignty programs
Lakóta language and cultural education
Ecological regeneration at the Wolakota Buffalo Range
Community-led economic development

Are these items handmade?

All items are handmade and created by Indigenous artists here on Siċaŋġu makoce (land), also known as the Rosebud Sioux Tribe/Reservation.

Can items be resold?

All items belong completely to you after your bid is won and you can do what you please with them. Although, we do ask that if the items are resold, they aren't resold in ways that remove cultural meaning or context.

They are shared within a cultural appreciation framework that emphasizes respect and responsibility.
