I Made a Promise to My Friends in Peru

My name is James Kierans, and I'm helping build a new home for children in Peru.

in July 2024, my family traveled to Cusco, Peru to volunteer at Azul Wasi, an orphanage whose name means "Blue House" in Quechua.

I wasn't there as a tourist. I helped cook breakfast, wash dishes, sweep floors, and play soccer with the kids every day. By the end of the trip, I knew everyone's names, favorite games, and favorite snacks.

When it was time to leave, I told my Dad:

"I don't want to go home."

That's how much my new friends meant to me.

A few months later, we received heartbreaking news.

Alcides, the founder of Azul Wasi, was diagnosed with cancer. To pay for treatment, he must sell the property. As a result, Azul Wasi will close and the children will lose their home.

But there is hope.

Our guide from Peru, Miguel, found land in his village and began building a new orphanage called Casa Feliz - "The Happy House."

The walls are standing.

The vision is real.

But the building isn't finished.

Without additional funding, the children cannot move in.

That's why I'm launching Building Casa Feliz.

The Goal

Raise the funds needed to finish Casa Feliz and help the children transition safely into their new home.

Bathrooms
Kitchen facilities
Electrical and plumbing work
Beds and bedding
School supplies
Food and daily necessities

How Your Gift Helps

$50 - Meals for a day

$100 - Buy a bed for one child

$250 - Furnish a bedroom (bed, dresser, linens)

$500 - Doors and windows to protect the children from cold Andean nights

$1,000 - Complete plumbing or electrical work in a room

$5,000 - Help finish the dormitory or the kitchen

Why I'm Doing This

When I left Peru, I promised my friends I wouldn't forget them.

This campaign is my way of keeping that promise.

I can't build Casa Feliz by myself. I need your help.

But together, we can make sure these children move from one home to another - not from certainty into uncertainty.
