We support a broader mission - one that goes beyond affordable and housing and takes a proactive role in breaking the cycle of poverty. We connect students with education, which they us to transform their futures, re-imagine a self-sufficient life - and leave public housing behind, forever.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, a college graduate's lifetime earnings will exceed that of a high school graduate by $1 million or more. The opportunities strengthen the workforce, the economy, the next generation and are even linked to better health outcomes.

Since its launch in 1998, more than $3.4 million and over 770 awards have supported public housing students in Norwalk as they go for advanced degrees and ultimately change the trajectory of their lives. More than 75% of our students graduate from 4-year colleges - significantly more than the nationwide average of 64%.

The College Scholarship Program has received recognition from Harvard University and NAHRO for innovation. But here's the far more important thing -- through education, housing students can see a future that didn't exist before. And consider these facts about our program:

1. Our scholars are motivated, and we support them emotionally and financially through the challenges they face in school. As a result, they graduate at almost DOUBLE the average of every other student who attends a 4-year school.
