At OtterCare Community Initiative, we believe community is one of the most powerful solutions to the challenges many of us face today. With skyrocketing food prices, inflation, shrinkflation, and planned obsolescence, it has become harder and more expensive just to get by. At the same time, the internet has made it possible to rarely leave our homes, contributing to a growing loneliness crisis across every age group. That’s why we’re working to bring community back together right here in Fergus Falls.

If you’re old enough to remember, there was a time when borrowing a cup of sugar from a neighbor was normal. Friends helped each other repair homes, and if someone couldn’t keep up with yard work, neighbors stepped in. That kind of connection happens when people have enough time, energy, and resources left after caring for their own families. Today, when paychecks don’t stretch as far and exhaustion fills what little free time we have, helping others can feel out of reach.

This is where OtterCare comes in.

Our community hub is designed to ease that burden and create space for connection again. Through a pay-what-you-can whole foods marketplace, families can access healthy food without financial stress. Our Repair Café, staffed by knowledgeable volunteers, will offer tools and guidance to fix, rather than replace , costly items like phones, appliances, and electronics. A tool lending library will eliminate the need to spend hundreds of dollars on equipment you may only use once or twice.

For those looking to build skills, OtterCare will host self-sufficiency classes covering cooking, cleaning, home repair, and more. We’ll also provide welcoming spaces for neighbors to gather, along with dedicated rooms for children and teens to enjoy age-appropriate group activities.

Beyond supporting families, we believe the backbone of any strong town is its locally owned businesses. We are committed to partnering with and promoting local businesses whenever possible - because when we shop local, the entire community benefits.

Together, we can make Fergus Falls a place where neighbors support one another, families feel secure, and everyone has the opportunity to thrive. All funds raised during this campaign will help us move closer towards our initial goal of renovating and stocking our Community Hub.
