Queer Scouts Seattle Camp 2024 will be held in person on Sunday, July 14 - Tuesday, July 16, 2024!

Location

Camp is at the Kanaskat-Palmer group site.

The site is a 40-60 minute drive from Seattle. There is parking on site and in an overflow site. Please fill out the carpool survey in your registration email.

While the cell service in the area has seemed okay, we still recommend downloading offline maps for navigation purposes.

The address for the state park is: 32101 Cumberland Kanaskat Rd, Ravensdale, WA 98051. Apple Maps should take you right there using this address. If you are using Google Maps, you need to drive about 0.3mi beyond the point on the road where it directs you to actually get to the entrance to the park. If you stop at the ranger station and let them know you are with the group at the group camp site, they will give you information on how to get to us. The reservation is under the last name Blanche. You should not need to pay anything extra to get into the park since you are with the group.

The group camp site has multiple sites for tents as well as two three-wall shelters (Adirondack shelters) that sleep 16 people total (8 per shelter). You will need to bring your own bedding (camp mattress, sleeping bag, etc.)

If you plan on sleeping in a tent, hammock, etc., you do not need to reserve a shelter space.

Accessibility Information

Kanaskat-Palmer State Park is a 541-acre camping park on a low, forested plateau, with 2 miles of shoreline on the Green River.

During carpool arrangements, please let us know if you need to park on-site for accessibility.

This map roughly shows the layout of the area around the bathroom and Adirondack shelters. Most of the paths from tent sites into the main camp shelter area are gravel/rocky dirt. There is a grass lawn near the bathrooms/parking that isn't technically a tent site and is also exposed to the parking lot (the parking is for the site only but sometimes hikers wander through looking for a bathroom). The path from the parking lot to the main shelter is relatively wide/flat and mostly grass/dirt. The path to the river/beach is narrow and steep with a partial staircase. The river access is a mix of rocky river bed and dirt. There are two multi-stall bathrooms on-site. Each has a shower stall. We will be adding gender neutral signs to the bathrooms for the duration of Camp.

There are two water taps on site.

Noise: The local fire station uses a siren to summon volunteer firefighters for duty. The siren may be activated at any hour of the day or night and can create noisy conditions for campers and visitors. Additionally, BNSF train tracks near the Park are a storage line, and while not used regularly, can emit train noise that may be disruptive to campers. Note from QS Leadership: During the past two years we have camped here, we have never heard the fire station siren; hoewever, the train has come through overnight both years. If you are sensitive to noise, bring earplugs.

COVID-19 Policy

Queer Scouts Seattle practices queer collective care protocol. These are our current plans for COVID safety based on our understanding of covid transmission:

All campers must be fully vaccinated. If you cannot get vaccinated for medical reasons, please tell us so we can help keep you safe at camp.

Campers will make/bring their own meals. We will have some shared snacks, but these are mostly pre-packaged/individual items.

Wear a N95 or similar mask when you are using the on-site bathrooms and when you are in close proximity to others. (You can unmask in the bathroom to brush your teeth, shower, etc.)

We recommend taking two rapid tests before camp. The first test should be taken about 48hrs before and the second just before coming to camp. Directions for how to perform a rapid test for best results can be found here: https://youtu.be/5RszVOT0hCU?si=z0z1o7NUFORu5TI8

Bring rapid tests to camp. QS will also provide some rapid tests.

Please cancel if you have a positive COVID test or are otherwise sick.

Contact tracing: please notify us if you test positive for COVID within 10 days after camp so we can notify other campers to get tested.

While we welcome allies at other events, camp is only for Scouts who are LGBTQIA2S+.

All campers must be 18 years or older.

Campers may bring their dogs if the dogs are quiet, used to being around other people and dogs, and used to camping.

Like all Queer Scouts events, we will not allow alcohol at camp. While Queer Scouts does allow the use of medical marijuana at our events, please be aware that it is illegal to consume marijuana in state parks.
