Reading to Cats is a great opportunity for students between the ages of 6-12 to come to the shelter and read to cats. This helps kids gain confidence in reading skills while also providing the cats time to socialize with the kids. Sessions are FREE to attend, but registration is required and donations are encouraged.

Minimum reader age is 6.
Maximum reader age is 12.
Maximum two readers per parent/guardian.
Only readers (children/minors) need to be registered - do not register yourself if you are an adult.
Space is limited to 10 students per session.
Parent/guardian must accompany kids for the entirety of the session.

Sessions last 60 minutes, but please be sure to arrive 5-10 minutes early
Students can bring their own books or choose ones from our library.

Good Mews is one of the few virtually cage-free, no-kill cat shelters in the state of Georgia and the first in the metro Atlanta area. Since 1988, Good Mews has placed over 11,000 cats in permanent homes. We receive no government support, relying solely on donations of time, service, and money from our supporters, the public, and area businesses. Good Mews is home to approximately 100 residents at any given time, with another 30 to 40 cats in foster care or our HALO program, which allows cats with severe and/or chronic medicals needs to find homes with Good Mews continuing to provide medical care related to that condition. We have an average adoption rate of 600 cats per year.
