OUR SCHOOLS ARE ON A SPENDING FREEZE!
In response to the ongoing DC budget crisis, which has resulted in an overnight $1.1 billion cut to DC's budget, CARE DC is taking swift action. This crisis has put our schools in a spending freeze, which has resulted in stretching and pulling every dollar to ensure the end-of-the-year activities proceed smoothly. Our schools shouldn't have to struggle to end the year well, nor should our children.
CARE Anacostia and CARE Brookland are taking action. You can too!
This freeze limits:
๐ŸŽ‰ Award ceremonies showcase students' voices, cultures, and achievements, affirming their dignity and leaving them feeling seen.
๐ŸŒŸ Access to summer learning tools, such as journals, art supplies, books, or project-based challenges that can be explored over the summer, especially those tied to real-life experiences (like storytelling, gardening, or community research), which maintains learning and continuity for the next school year.
๐ŸšŒ Field trips and field days boost student and educator morale because they offer joyful, meaningful breaks from routine that reconnect everyone to the deeper purpose of learning and community
And more!
3 Reasons to CARE for DC schools
๐Ÿ’กDisinvestment deepens inequity and despair.
Most underfunded schools serve Black, Latine, and low-income youth, perpetuating cycles of trauma and marginalization. Schools are systems meant to protect our kids, not abandon them. Let's work together to celebrate them so they can end the year on a high note.

๐ŸคStrong schools build strong communities.
Schools are often hubs for families, social services, and neighborhood connections. When schools thrive, they foster pride, hope, and cohesion—key ingredients in reducing safety concerns and nurturing community resilience.

๐Ÿ“ฃ It’s not just a school issue—it’s a justice issue.
Youth safety concerns are not simply about individual choices; it’s about systems that fail to meet basic needs. Investing in schools is one of the most direct ways to interrupt alternative behaviors and advance racial and economic justice.
