The Ice Bucket Challenge—co-founded by Pat Quinn and Pete Frates, two young men with ALS—became a global phenomenon in the summer of 2014. The Challenge raised awareness about ALS and funded critical research and care services for people living with the disease. Funds raised led to scientific advancements, improved understanding of ALS, and huge strides in research to find treatments for the disease.

Today as we kick off our Rise Against ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, we continue to honor the history and inspiration generated by the phenomenal support for the ALS community that began with a grassroots effort and led to an extraordinary force for change, with millions of people coming together and making a difference. We invite you to take action and help write the next chapter! Whether you advocate, participate, or donate, YOU are helping change the fight against ALS. Join us in honor of NFL star Chris Johnson, whose recent diagnosis with ALS reminds us that anyone can be impacted by this devastating disease.

WHY YOUR SUPPORT MATTERS:

Every donation helps support our mission to rise together as a community to raise awareness about ALS, advocate for and support research, and provide resources to improve and enrich the lives of those living with the disease and their families. This includes raising funds to support ALS clinics for patient care, supporting research for a cure, and promoting education and care initiatives that empower those living with the disease. HOW TO PARTICIPATE:

STEP 1: Take a photo or video of yourself pouring a bucket of ice water over your head. Include your name, the name of the person who nominated you, and the names of friends/family members you nominate to take the challenge, and link to our website: RiseAgainstALS.org/icebucketchallenge.

STEP 2: Share your photo/video on social media. Be sure to tag @RiseAgainstALS, those who challenged you, and those you challenged. Use the hashtag #ALSIceBucketChallenge.
