SmartCycle IT is a global sustainability and digital equity initiative developed by the Nation of Cherut’s Ministry of Sustainability to address two urgent challenges at once:

👉 the growing crisis of electronic waste, and
👉 the lack of access to digital tools and skills for youth and communities worldwide.

At its core, SmartCycle IT transforms discarded technology into education, opportunity, and empowerment—ensuring that usable devices do not end up in landfills, but instead reach the hands of those who need them most.

The Inspiration Behind SmartCycle IT

This program was inspired by the extraordinary work of Chibuzo Ogbonnaya, Director of Youth for Nigeria for the Nation of Cherut and a dedicated community leader in Abuja, Nigeria.

Every Saturday, Chibuzo volunteers his time to teach children ages 7–15 digital literacy and practical technology skills—covering:

Microsoft Office
Canva
Foundational computer skills
Creative and professional digital tools

He teaches in the communities of Gbazango and Kagini, Abuja—often working with only two computers, limited resources, and his own personal funds.

Despite these challenges, he shows up consistently, driven by a belief that access to technology is access to possibility.

The Nation of Cherut recognized that Chibuzo’s work is not an isolated story—it represents a global gap that exists across Africa, the United States, and underserved communities worldwide.

SmartCycle IT was created to meet that gap.

From One Community to a Global Model

SmartCycle IT scales this grassroots impact into a structured, ethical, and sustainable global program that:

Collects surplus and retired IT equipment
Responsibly recycles unusable devices
Refurbishes and redistributes viable technology
Supports digital education and workforce readiness
Reduces environmental harm from e-waste

This initiative ensures that community leaders like Chibuzo—and many others—are no longer carrying this work alone.
